Operating system
|
The app currently
runs both Android and iOS. The app is acomplete native implementation on both
platforms.
|
|
|
|
Background
|
When running in
background the app will suspend all its running
processes. So running the app in background should not have any negative
effect on the battery usage of the device.

|
Storage
|
The app uses the
local storage to store all project details, the reactions of the users and
the (possibly) taken photo’s and video’s.
|
|
Storage - Modify or
delete the contents of your
USB storage
Development tools - Test access
to protected storage
|
|
Bug reports
|
When the app would
crash it will automatically send an
anonymous bug report
to the server environment. We use
these bug reports to
improve the stability of the app.
|
|
System tools -
Prevent phone from sleeping,
retrieve running apps
|
|
Locations
|
Some projects enable
to send location details (using GPS if
possible) when
reacting. The app will ask the user to give
permission for
sending location details. Only for projects
on which this is
enabled and when placing a reaction the
location is
retrieved. The app will not retrieve the location
when running in
background. The app also works if a user
does not accept
sending location details or the GPS is
disabled.
|
To be able to send
location details the
user needs to accept
this when asked.
This setting can
also be changed using
the main ‘Settings’
app at ‘Location
services’.
|
Your
location - Precise (GPS) location
|
|
Photo’s and Video’s
|
Some projects allow
users to take photo’s and/or video’s.
The photo’s are
stored locally on the device and send to
the server
environment when a working internet connection
is available. The
reactions will be kept local if there is no
connection or a
connection failure occurs. When refreshing
(by tapping the
refresh button) or when opening the app it
will try to upload
any local reactions that aren’t uploaded
yet. The app will
only upload photo’s/video’s that are
taken/selected
by the user.
|
|
Hardware controls -
Take pictures and
videos
|
|
Communicate with server
environment
|
The app communicates
with the server environment to be
able to download
projects, place reactions (with or without
photo’s/video’s).
When the refresh button is tapped or the
app is activated it
will communicate with the server to see
if there is new data
(projects/topics/reactions) available
and/or data
(reactions/photo's/video's) that needs to be
uploaded.
|
|
Network
communication - Full network
access / Retrieve
data from internet
|
|
Data communication
|
The total amount of
data sent and received depends on the
project, and can be
roughly calculated:
- per
uploaded/downloaded text message: +/- 1 KB
- per
uploaded/downloaded photo: +/- 100 KB
- per
uploaded/downloaded video: +/- 0-5 MB
|
|
|
|
Push notifications
|
Push notifications
are send when
- new
topics become available
- a reaction
(comment) is placed under one of your own
reactions
The moment a push
notification is received it will be shown
when the app is
running in the background.
When the app is in
the foreground a received push
notification will
force a refresh and won't be shown itself
|
To be able to
receive push notifications
the user needs to
accept this when
asked. The setting
can also be changed
using the ‘Settings’
app at ‘Notifications’.
